How often should I clean and re-oil my K&N air filter?

The cleaning interval depends on your driving conditions. In normal street use, cleaning every 50,000 miles is usually sufficient. If you drive in dusty conditions, you'll want to clean it more often. K&N sells filter cleaning and oiling kits to maintain your filter.

What is the flange made of?

The flange is made from ultra-strong, molded, pliable rubber. This material absorbs vibration and allows for secure attachment. It can also be stretched up to 1/16 of an inch (1.5mm) to fit in-between sizes.

Is this filter oiled?

Yes, this filter comes pre-oiled from the factory, ready to install. The oil helps trap dirt and debris, improving filtration. You'll need to re-oil it after cleaning to maintain its effectiveness.

K&N XD air filters use a Deep Pile Design, Extra Fine Weave Grade Cotton and alternate geometries for added efficiency and capacity for off-road conditions. This extra thick filtering medium provides the increased protection demanded by high dust conditions while continuing to provide the performance necessary to stay in the front of the pack. The XD Cotton medium was developed for the extreme conditions encountered by race teams in the Baja 1000. This real world testing is combined with testing performed at K&N's own Dust Retention Laboratory in conformity with the ISO 5011 test protocol.
