How often should I clean and re-oil this filter?

The cleaning interval depends on your driving conditions, but K&N recommends inspecting the filter every 25,000 miles under normal highway use. Off-road conditions will require more frequent cleaning. Use K&N filter cleaner and oil to maintain the filter's performance.

What is the flange made of?

The flange is made of pliable rubber. This allows the filter to be mounted securely, even on intakes that aren't perfectly round. The rubber also helps absorb vibration.
