How often should I clean and re-oil my K&N air filter?

The cleaning interval depends on your driving conditions. K&N recommends cleaning the filter when the dirt buildup becomes visible on the filter. In normal paved-road conditions, this may be every 10,000 to 20,000 miles. In dusty conditions, cleaning may be needed more frequently.

What is the flange made of?

The flange is made from pliable rubber. This allows the filter to be mounted securely, even on slightly different sized connections. The rubber also helps to absorb vibration.
