NGK's TR5AHX Ruthenium HX spark plugs are a solid option for many modern vehicles, offering an updated approach to ignition. These plugs feature a special Ruthenium alloy in the center electrode, which is designed to concentrate spark energy. This can lead to a more complete fuel burn, potentially resulting in quicker throttle response, a smoother idle, and easier cold starts.

The design incorporates a 0.4mm Ruthenium alloy fine wire center electrode and a 0.8mm platinum fine wire ground electrode. This Double Fine Electrode (DFE) setup is intended to ignite a wider range of air-fuel mixtures, performing well in both rich and lean conditions. The plugs also have a pure alumina silicate ceramic insulator for strength and heat transfer, plus trivalent metal plating to resist corrosion and seizing. A copper core helps manage heat, and corrugated ribs on the insulator help prevent flashover.
