Yes, the ColorSHIFT halos require a ColorSHIFT controller to operate. The controller is sold separately. Without the controller, the color-changing functions will not work.

No, installation is designed to be simple and take only minutes. The halos attach to the outside of the light housing using a multi-layer 3M adhesive backing, so there's no need to disassemble your lights.
