Second-gen Camaro and Firebird owners building a serious chassis know that the factory front subframe is the weak link. Ridetech's performance subframe for the 1970-1981 GM F-Body replaces it entirely with a unit that includes AFX hub spindles, upper and lower control arms, a sway bar, steering arms, outer tie rods, and a transmission crossmember.
Like its first-gen counterpart, this subframe uses AFX hub spindles with sealed hub-bearing assemblies rather than the factory's tapered roller bearings. The result is more consistent bearing preload and less routine maintenance on the front end. Everything bolts in as a unit, so the geometry is set at the factory rather than assembled piecemeal on your garage floor.
The 1970-1981 F-Body platform is popular for Pro Touring, autocross, and road course builds, and starting with a correct subframe makes every subsequent suspension decision easier. Coilovers and shocks are not included, giving you the freedom to choose the damping setup that matches your driving style and build goals.
