This is a Vertex Pistons wrist pin, measuring 45mm in length, designed specifically for the 2017-2020 Honda CRF450R and CRF450RX models, as well as the 2023 450 SMR and 2023-2024 450 SX-F. The wrist pin is a critical component connecting the piston to the connecting rod, allowing the piston to pivot as it moves within the cylinder.
Vertex Pistons uses a case-hardening process with nitride coatings on this wrist pin. This treatment creates a very hard surface that resists wear and prevents galling, which is important for the high-stress environment inside an engine. Unlike some hardening processes that require quenching, the nitride coating achieves the desired surface hardness without introducing distortion to the part.
