What is the difference between this Stage 3 and the Stage 2 kit?

Stage 3 includes everything in Stage 2 plus a 3-inch high flow down pipe with black ceramic coat and heat wrap. If you only want to address the intake and intercooler side, the Stage 2 bundle covers that without the down pipe.

Are the silicone boots a significant improvement over stock?

The factory LB7 uses angled rubber boots that are known to crack and develop boost leaks over time. The included silicone boots are rated for higher pressures and temperatures, which helps eliminate those common leak points and maintain consistent boost pressure.

Does the powder coat hold up to engine bay heat?

The Gloss Black powder coat is applied to the aluminum intake and intercooler components. The down pipe, which sees much higher exhaust temperatures, uses a separate black ceramic coat with heat wrap for thermal protection.

Opening up the intake tract on a 2001-2004 LB7 Duramax is one of the most effective ways to help the turbo breathe and respond the way it should. This Wehrli Custom Fab Stage 3 High Flow Intake Bundle Kit replaces the restrictive factory air intake, intercooler piping, Y-bridge, and down pipe on your Silverado 2500 HD, Silverado 3500, Sierra 2500 HD, or Sierra 3500 with properly sized aluminum components, all finished in Gloss Black powder coat.

The 4" fabricated aluminum air intake pipe and enclosed 10-gauge aluminum air box pull cold air through the inner fender rather than drawing hot underhood air. A dry filter with a hydrophobic Outerwears pre-filter cover keeps the MAF sensor and turbo clean, and a removable air box lid gives you quick access for filter checks. The included 4" high flow intake horn replaces the factory turbo mouthpiece, opening up that common restriction point for both OEM and IHI-style upgraded drop-in turbochargers.

From the turbo to the engine, Wehrli's 3" mandrel-bent aluminum intercooler piping and TIG-welded, CNC-machined billet Y-bridge base replace the factory Y-bridge and both intercooler pipes. Running a full 3" tract through the intercooler system helps the turbo build boost faster and moves more air into the cylinders, which can help bring down exhaust gas temperatures under load. Silicone boots rated for higher pressures and temperatures replace the factory rubber boots that tend to split over time.

The Stage 3 package adds a 3" high flow down pipe with black ceramic coat and heat wrap, taking a straighter path than the factory piece to improve exhaust flow. Stainless steel T-bolt clamps, an FPRV block-off kit, and all installation hardware and gaskets are in the box. Compatible with OEM and IHI-style turbos only. Not CARB approved.
