Will this kit cause any check engine lights?

No. The kit retains all factory sensor connections and works with the stock ECM calibration. It should not trigger any diagnostic trouble codes or check engine lights.

Can I start with Stage 2 and add the down pipe later?

The Stage 2 and Stage 3 kits use the same intake, intercooler pipe, and Y-bridge components. You could purchase Stage 2 first and add a Wehrli down pipe separately later, though buying Stage 3 as a bundle saves money compared to purchasing parts individually.

Wehrli's Candy Red finish stands out as one of their more eye-catching powder coat options, and it comes on the same complete Stage 3 airflow package that covers intake, intercooler piping, Y-bridge, and turbo down pipe for the 2006-2007 Duramax LBZ.

From filter to turbo: The 4 in. aluminum intake pipe draws cold air through the inner fender into an enclosed air box with a dry filter and hydrophobic Outerwears pre-filter. The 4.8 in. intake horn feeds the turbo with 20% more air than the factory horn. All intake piping is 14-gauge aluminum with smooth mandrel bends that improve air velocity and volume while giving the turbo a more aggressive sound under acceleration.

Turbo to engine: The 3 in. driver-side (hot) intercooler pipe and 3.5 in. passenger-side (cold) pipe are both 14-gauge aluminum with mandrel bends. The cold-side pipe flows 47% better than the factory plastic and rubber assembly. CNC machined flanges with double O-ring seals and upgraded silicone hump boots handle higher boost pressures than stock, putting an end to the blown boot problems that plague hard-working LBZ trucks.

Y-bridge: The signature 3 in. bolt-together two-piece Y-bridge replaces the factory slip-fit design. It flows 36% better than stock and uses CNC machined billet flanges for a secure, sealed connection. The full 3 in. tract from intercooler to engine incorporates the factory grid heater and EGR connections.

Down pipe: A 3 in. stainless steel down pipe with heat wrap replaces the restrictive factory exhaust section after the turbocharger. This is what sets Stage 3 apart from Stage 2.
