This shield uses DEI's LR fiber technology, which is a two-ply material. The outer layer is made from a tightly woven basalt fiber, which comes from pulverized lava rock, giving it durability. The inner layer is a high-temperature silica fabric that can handle extreme heat. What's really neat is the standoff bracket design; it creates an air gap between the shield and the pipe, which helps with cooling and dissipating heat more effectively than simpler shields. It can handle temperatures up to 1350°F, which is a big step up from basic glass fiber shields that can start to fail much lower.
