Starting with a bar-and-plate core construction, this Mishimoto intercooler is built for serious cooling. The stock intercooler in your Volkswagen GTI or Golf R is fine for everyday driving, but it can struggle when you start pushing more boost. The plastic components and tube-and-fin design of the factory unit can lead to boost leaks and heat soak. This Mishimoto unit replaces those with fully cast aluminum end tanks, which are much more durable and can handle higher boost pressures without issue. An internal air diverter is built into the end tanks to ensure you're using the entire core for cooling.

The bar-and-plate design offers a significant upgrade over the stock tube-and-fin setup. It boasts a 46-percent increase in core volume and a 97-percent increase in external fin surface area, meaning it can dissipate more heat. This improved design results in a 9-percent increase in flow and can drop charged air temperatures by up to 20 degrees Fahrenheit across the core. The kit includes 5-layer silicone couplers and a CNC-machined adapter, making it a direct fit with your stock piping. This intercooler is designed to fit a range of Volkswagen and Audi models, including the GTI, Golf R, Jetta, and A3.
