Product Details
If you've got a 1998-2002 Chevrolet Camaro or Pontiac Firebird with a 4L80E transmission and you're planning on some spirited driving or hard launches, this torque arm relocation kit from UMI Performance is a smart move. The stock setup bolts the torque arm directly to the transmission tail shaft, which isn't built to handle a lot of abuse. This kit moves that mounting point off the transmission and onto a new, stronger crossmember, protecting your tail shaft from damage.
This kit replaces your factory crossmember with a well-built unit made from USA steel tubing and 3/16” thick mounting plates. The torque arm mount itself is laser cut from 1/4” thick steel and uses a new clam shell design to securely attach your torque arm. It’s designed to work with most stock-style aftermarket torque arms and even the factory torque arm, though you'll need a specific bushing (#3004) if you're using the stock one. The best part is that it's a 100% bolt-in installation; it uses the existing holes where your stock crossmember was, so no drilling, cutting, or welding is required.
This crossmember is designed to tuck up tight, so it won't reduce your vehicle's ground clearance, and in most cases, it's actually lighter than the stock unit while being structurally stronger. Just remember, this kit requires a solid one-piece polyurethane bushing, not the factory two-piece design.
