Professional difficulty to install
Raptor-specific system with hydraulic bump stops and frame bracing. Professional installation required for proper bracket placement and bump stop calibration.
Product Details
ICON's Stage 2 system for the first-generation Raptor addresses the two things that limit the factory suspension at speed: bump stop engagement and shock fade. The hydraulic bump stop system replaces the factory rubber stops with a controlled, progressive unit that uses oil and nitrogen to manage energy, and the 2.5-inch remote reservoir shocks handle the damping through the rest of the travel.
Hydraulic Bump Stops
Factory bump stops are simple rubber pucks. When the suspension bottoms out, you feel a harsh impact. ICON's hydraulic bump stops use a nitrogen charge and oil with a damping piston to do two jobs at once: act as a spring and act as a shock absorber. The nitrogen charge compresses progressively -- low force at the beginning of travel, ramping up toward the end. The oil and damping piston control how fast the bump stop compresses relative to speed.
At slow speeds, the bump stops are soft and compliant, allowing full suspension travel. At high speeds -- the kind of speeds a Raptor actually sees in the desert -- they create very high forces to resist bottoming out. This speed-sensitive behavior is what makes them so much more effective than a static rubber stop.
Clamshell Frame Bracing
The clamshell bracket design does double duty. It mounts the hydraulic bump stop securely, and its triangulated cross braces reinforce a section of the frame that is known to be a weak point on the Raptor. If you are running your Raptor hard enough to need hydraulic bump stops, you are also running it hard enough to stress the frame. The bracing addresses both needs.
2.5-Inch Remote Reservoir Shocks
Front and rear 2.5-inch shocks with remote reservoirs round out the system. The remote reservoirs increase oil volume and heat dissipation surface area, keeping the shocks cooler and more consistent during extended hard use. The combination of improved shocks and hydraulic bump stops gives the Raptor a wider performance envelope than either upgrade alone.
